I am delighted to confirm that my debut novel, Chasing Shadows, will be featuring at this year’s Belfast Book Festival.

I have been invited to participate in the lunch-time ‘Self Publishing Salon’ with Debbie McGrory. This will run from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm — it’s a free event. I will be sharing the stage with fellow author Peter JS Waugh (Half Irish), another ‘self pub’ advocate.Chasing Shadows_FINAL (2)

The Belfast Book Festival is a celebration of Northern Ireland’s love of all hardback, paperback and e-books. With artists and authors representing many key themes including literature, poetry, fiction, non-fiction, sport, coming of age, art and music, there’s something for everyone. This may well be the first time that a ‘sailing book’ has made it into the festival…?

Keith Acheson, Festival Director said: “This year’s Festival is the biggest and best yet, having grown to encompass almost 90 events over the course of the week. It will once again feature the very best in local and internationally renowned authors. W will bee are thrilled that from the world of poetry, Paul Muldoon, one of the Crescent Arts Centre’s patrons. Sir Andrew Motion and BBC Radio 3’s The Verb presenter, Ian McMillan will be making appearances alongside Doire Press from Connemara. Local poets, including Paula Cunningham, Jean Bleakney and Moyra Donaldson will feature. Our Poetry Slam will be making a raucous return on Friday 13th June.”

Peter and I will be reading from our respective books and thereafter entering into conversation with Debbie. I plan to talk about the creation of Chasing Shadows and open up on the challenges that self publishing, and particularly, ‘self marketing’ have presented. As well, I will mention what attracted me to writing while posing the question: how, from very non-academic past, did novel writing become an obsession…?

Finally, and if time permits, I hope to read the opening chapter from my latest manuscript of nautical fiction – currently being ‘assessed’ by the world of publishing. Thereafter I will be available to chat and [hopefully] sell and sign a few more copies of … Chasing Shadows.

Please drop by – bring your piece with you – and if you’ve already purchased a copy of my book, sure, bring it with too – I’ll sign it for you …

Kind regards

Thomas Jobling
